Make your own “green” cleaning products

We all know that many commercial cleaning products contain harmful and poisonous chemicals. These products are not environment-friendly and improper disposal can lead to a host of problems including poisoning wildlife and the chemicals seeping into the water table Not to mention that these products come in various bottles and containers that only contribute to the amount of trash we throw away. The best solution is to make your own cleaning products using environment-friendly ingredients. Contrary to what you might think, making these environment-friendly cleaners is actually easy.

Toilet cleaner

Mix one-fourth cup of baking soda with a cup of white vinegar. This mixture will fizz and rise up so put your container over the sink or the toilet first to minimize the mess in your house. Apply this mixture while it’s still fizzing directly on to the toilet. Allow it sit for fifteen minutes then brush the toilet with a stiff bristled brush or a natural pumice stone. This is an effective way of removing limescale.

Glass cleaner

Making a green glass cleaner is easy, just mix equal amounts of white vinegar and water. You can put the mixture in a bottle because it can be used multiple times without going bad. Apply this mixture to mirrors and windows to wipe it clean. This can also be used to clean the toilet rim and make it shiny. If the glass you’re trying to clean has areas that are greasy, you can add a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid to help cut the grease.

All-purpose cleaner

Mix together a fourth cup of white vinegar and an eighth of a cup of baking soda. Add a liter of water to this mixture and what you get is a very useful all-purpose cleaner that you can use in practically any room in the house for a variety of purposes. You can use it to clean your kitchen including the floors, work area, and the shink. You can use it to clean the toilet handles and even the bathroom fixtures and the shower panels.

Cleaning bathroom mold

One of the biggest headaches for anyone cleaning the house is the growth of mold in between the tiles in the bathroom. One of the more effective natural solutions for this problem is by mixing one part hydrogen peroxide (3% solution) to two part water. Spray this mixture over the mold growth. Allow it to sit there for almost an hour and then scrub and rinse.

These are affordable and soft organic cotton sets that I would have given 5 stars to had Hudson Baby not placed the the plastic that pierces the fabric to affix the products to the hangers in locations that damaged the fabric, leaving holes that will have to be mended. Unfortunately, you won’t necessarily notice this issue until you have cut the plastic to free the items from each other and the hangers, which means you won’t be able to return the product. Other companies use the same plastic but are intelligent as to where the plastic pierces the fabric (they pierce the inside seam where no damage that will cause a problem will be done). Unfortunately, Hudson Baby’s placement of this plastic has left noticeable holes on the back (by the neck) of the body suit and on the cap. Many of the holes are large enough that in order to avoid a run or larger hole, I will have to mend or use some sort of iron-on tape on the inside of the items.
